Rawlf meeps and screws up his face in a snarl before Caleb reaches down and puts his hand on the Pokemon's head.
"I don't know. Maybe we can just scare it away? I think you're right...I'm not sure we can fight it...but we can at least try and do something."
He stands back up straight and visibly steels himself.
"Let's go."

Rawlf's reply sounds almost exasperated.
Caleb also picks up a rock and tries to throw it and then yells loudly "Hey bird! Leave them alone!!"

Mariko's rock hits the bird squarely in the beak. Caleb's goes wild and is nowhere near the mark.
[Pokemon Turn]
The bird Pokemon is distracted by the stones whizzing at it from the two trainers, and the large rat-shaped Pokemon uses the opening to savagely attack!

The bird Pokemon screeches and swoops down to swipe the rat-shaped Pokemon with it's talons.

As Caleb looks towards the two rat Pokemon the one who was fighting collapses onto the ground and starts breathing heavily. It's wounds are still raw and open and the baby is making a small noise and trying to get the bigger one to move.
Both Mariko and Caleb need to make a Perception roll at the end of your reaction posts. (1d20 + Wisdom modifier)

Mariko isn't much of a person that notices the feelings of critters outside of her glory moments. She is too busy kneeling for Pepper and petting her while praising her with sweet words. The Eevee was the one that nudges her into noticing the large mouse was in trouble still. Mariko's face scrunches up in concern as she moves to take a closer look at its condition.

Rawlf seems to commune with it and Caleb starts looking over the wounds.
"I wish I had thought to stop and get a healing kit or something. Hindsight is always 20/20." Caleb kind of twists his mouth in consternation. "What else can we do to help her?"

Caleb and Mariko both miss the rustling of bushes before more Pokemon like the larger one burst out of the treeline.
They race to the wounded one's side and hiss at the two Trainers and their Pokemon.
The wounded one barks something at the others and they all seem to calm down, but still eye the Trainers warily.

Pepper marches over to the other pokemon happily, nose sniffing.
"Do you know how far it is to the nearest pokecenter? I don't think it will make it over night by itself here... or does it just need a rest?" Mariko shifts uneasily. She really doesn't want to stay, Palet Town was too far away for this bump in the road. She needed to get started on her plans for greatness now.
