- He grew up on a pokemon ranch. Their parents had gotten a meowth as a pet when they were first dating and when it came time to decide what to do with the seed money their parents had given them as a wedding present they decided it would be great to start a ranch and surround themselves with pokemon all the time. It was huge and everyone in his family helped keep the place going. They sold off the shiny pokemon to collectors, had thoroughbreds for those who wanted to use them in the field or for shows, and they had those that ended up on the dinner table. Their lives were consumed by pokemon and they never had to leave the ranch. When small they would follow their parents around when they supervised and when they were old enough they would start working with the hands and learning in the hope that the ranch could one day be run just by the family and bind them together for generations. Min ended up taking to the dittos and started getting trained to deal with the eggs and hatchlings before they were passed off to their respective areas. His days were consumed wandering around the hatchery checking on the eggs and playing with the dittos. This gave him lots of energy and the ability to stay up for days. If an egg was in bad shape or on the verge of hatching, it did not matter how long he had been working. They would expect him to attend to it. When things were going well the dittos would play with him until he was exhausted as they did not have a lot of other pokemon to play with. As time went on, they drifted in their own separate ways. Several of them had grown to love their sort of pokemon so much that they just wanted to go out and train that kind of pokemon. Others wanted to see more or study them in more depth. As each of them left it got harder and harder to run the business. They had been willing to hire hands for a while and get them trained, but the prospect of having to keep a staff forever was just not feasible. The first was Maalik who loved his water pokemon and when he got their parents approval they give him a pokemon egg as a gift. They had not studied and did not know what was in the egg. He was just thrilled to get a pokemon and begin his journey. The egg had a magikarp and he was still all kinds of proud of it. It led him to find new ways to deal with pokemon. He might not be able to fight well with the magikarp, but he learned how to make friends. His stories led many of the others to take a similar path to advancement. Rather than fighting all the time the aimed to earn the trust of pokemon. This was not true for all of them of course. Some were downright vicious. Each left in turn to pursue their goals. Mahli even deliberately took a magikarp with him when he left hoping to follow in his brother's footsteps. Min had always assumed that he would get to continue the family business. When his parents came to him and explained that they were closing up shop to simply live off their investments he was saddened. They explained that he could not keep their business going by himself and paying hands was too expensive. He did not have the business sense for it and while he was great with the dittos and the studs brought in, it did not make him a qualified breeder. He had a long way to go. Over the next month while they got things lined up to sell the business and move he tried to figure out what to do with his life. He moved to pallet town with his parents and decided to find himself a ditto and meet other pokemon. Let it breed with the wild ones and assume their shapes. Learn about them through his ditto and learn how to breed them. He could make money selling them and work on his main goal. Breeding the best dittos in the world and raise the bar for all pokemon by releasing well bred and cared for stock into the wild. That just left one problem, finding a pokemon to go out into the world with. They had lost all of them except the first one they had when they sold the ranch. At first he planned to ask for his parents persian, but before he got up the nerve to ask fortune struck. One morning they found the persian curled up with an egg. Having done this before, he helped it hatch and decided to take the little meowth with him on his adventure.
