The two Rattata eagerly hop into the Pokeballs. Mariko and Caleb make it the rest of the way through Viridian Forest without being challenged again. It appears that the Trainer they defeated let the others know not to challenge them casually. They make it to Viridian City around midday. [Viridian City] Viridian City Pokemart

Sometime in the late afternoon, Mariko and Caleb make it into Pallet Town and Professor Oak's Lab. [Professor Oak's Lab]As they approach, the Professor himself comes out to greet them.  After brief introductions as they walk into the lab, the Professor gets right down to business. "I called you here because I find myself needing to acquire the legendary Mew. I had one at one time, but after I was done studying it I released it back into the wild. I need a new specimen to study and the principal of Dragonair Academy suggested the two of you. This task will require team work from you, and your Pokemon, as well as a gentle spirit. You cannot trick a Mew about your intentions, so you must approach it with a pure heart and the only the best of intentions. It does not need to be captured. Persuasion will do as well, but either will be difficult. You have already come far in your journey but I would suggest starting to look for clues back in Viridian City. I can see you already have Pokemon, but you will need a Pokedex as well. So here you go.
I have a Capture Specialist and an Empath on my staff. Either one or both of them might have some tips for you."Professor Oaks calls two of the people in lab coats over to his side. First, he motions to his left. "Paula is the Empath, she specializes in knowing what a Pokemon is thinking and how to keep Pokemon she works with very happy."Then the professor motions to his right. "Roger here specializes in capturing legendary Pokemon. He captured my last specimen, so he might have some tips for you.
Feel free to ask them anything.
Good luck on your journey!"
And before you can say anything Professor Oak continues further into the lab. Roger pipes up "His work is never done. Any questions for us, kids?"[Results of Encounter]Mariko and Caleb level up! Mariko and Caleb gain a Pokedex! |

"Only about a million." Mariko turns to Roger. "How does capturing legendary pokemon differ from others? Do we need special poke balls?"
She decides to list off her questions. "What are the benefits of approaching a legendary openly vs just going after it? Can you over power a legendary pokemon?"

Roger ponders Mariko's questions for a minute.
"You don't need any special Pokeballs although Master balls are the nicest for capturing legendary Pokemon.
The reason Professor Oak suggested that you might want to try and talk to it is because often times legendary Pokemon are some of the hardest to battle. They can be defeated, but it's certainly not easy. Not to mention if you misjudge and hurt them too much the Pokemon that you took so much time to track down is out of commission. You have to work very hard to be sure you can catch them or get them to work with you. Actually that is why Paula is here. She journeyed with me and was quite invaluable at easing my way through the wild Pokemon. She can actually talk to them mind to mind."
Paula is staring rather intently at Caleb. Suddenly her voice resonates in Caleb's mind.
"You don't have to pretend to be interested. But I can also see that you really are."
