Caleb follows her almost in a daze, Rawlf meeps happily at his heels.
"What do you mean why am I so freaked out?"
Rawlf meeps again.
"Because I can talk to you. Of course I can. Mariko talks to Pepper all the time."
Rawlf just looks at him.
"You're saying I can hear your thoughts?"
The two finally catch up to Mariko and Pepper and Caleb looks at her.
"Can you talk to Pepper and get a response? Because apparently Rawlf is projecting his thoughts into my head. I just wonder if that's...normal."
Rawlf meeps and sounds rather annoyed. Caleb turns to him "I'm not saying you're the weird one! I'm saying I am!"

Caleb glares at Mariko for a second and unwittingly projects his thoughts into her head. "TOUGHEN UP?!"
Then the anger suddenly cuts off and Caleb sighs. "You say that like going home is an option. I guess it is for you. All that waits for me at home is parental disappointment because I don't want to go into the family business."
Rawlf meeps sadly and Caleb looks down at him.
"I know buddy, I don't blame you."
He looks at Mariko.
"Let's just get on with your 'adventure.' I'll be fine."

[Route 1]  As the two companions walk down the path towards Viridian City about halfway there they hear a call in front of them. "Hey!" Two trainers, that look around 18, come running up the path and face off with Mariko and Caleb. "We hear you beat our little brother in Viridian Forest. We've been looking for you two. I'm Fred, this is Phillip. We'll bet you 500 a piece we can beat you in battle. And he..." The younger brother puffs around the corner. "Said you guys are so good that if you can't pay for your part of the bet, he'll cover it and his own." The little brother nods. "I'm Garret, by the way." Fred grins. "Come on, Phillip, we can't let Garret be right! Bulbasaur GO!" Phillip throws his Pokeball out, "Go get em, Abra!" [Combat Begins!]  Trainer turns:
